How Much Does a Rebuilt Transmission Cost?

The Price of the same Rebuilt Transmission can vary by a couple hundred dollars and sometimes even over a thousand dollars depending on the abilities or honesty of the transmission shop that was chosen to have the transmission rebuilt. Even the cost of a rebuilt transmission from the same shop can vary by that same price range depending on the type of vehicle and any internal hard part damage. But there is an average price range for the cost of a rebuilt transmission, and like anything else, you get what you pay for, unless you're paying for a shop's franchise fees.

What is a Transmission Flush - Fluid Change?

A transmission flush, sometimes referred to by customers as a "transmission fluid change" is a service that exchanges old automatic transmission fluid (ATF) with new ATF. This service uses a machine that flushes out almost all of the old fluid, but does not include changing the filter or removing the pan to clean the debris.

What is a rebuilt automatic transmission?

What is included in a transmission rebuild?

A Rebuilt automatic transmission as defined by the transmission repair industry is a transmission that has been disassembled, inspected for the root cause of the transmission failure and cleaned for reassembly. Then any hard parts that are found to be damaged or worn past acceptable specifications are replaced, the transmission is assembled with a complete Master Transmission Rebuild Kit (MRK) along with any requested upgrades, and most importantly, corrections to address the root cause of the transmission failure. But not all transmission shops rebuild transmissions the same way. The way a shop rebuilds a transmission depends on the same factors that affect the cost of a rebuilt transmission; the shop's abilities, honesty and even the quality of the shop's rebuilt transmissions.

What is the difference between;

A rebuilt transmission,
A remanufactured transmission,
A reconditioned transmission and
A transmission overhaul?

A transmission overhaul or a remanufactured, reconditioned and rebuilt transmission all refer to the same thing, a transmission rebuild as defined by the question above, "What is a rebuilt transmission". The difference in terminology can be caused by the phrase that is most commonly used and accepted in that part of the country, or an advertizing gimmick for the same reasons if that area perceives one phrase to have more importance over another. No matter how it is phrased, they all refer to a transmission rebuild and the cost should be the same as well.

How long does it take to rebuild a transmission? OR

How long should it take to rebuild a transmission?
