Image Diary Part One -
Parts For Our 454 BBC Engine
Part One) Allstate Transmission's 1970 SS Chevelle project car gets all the parts needed to assemble the BBC engine; what's left of the LS6 starts to look like it might make some decent power, we'd planned for about 800HP.

Part One includes images of;
- The engine, a $200 junkyard LS6 454 4 bolt block needed .125 over bore to get rid of some damage by rusted in pistons, about as far as you can safely go on a stock block.
- The crankshaft is a stock length 454 4 inch stroke 4340 forged steel Scat crankshaft and the rods are stock length as well, 6.135 inch H beam Scat rods.
- The Ross 4.375 bore forged pistons along with the open chamber heads get us to just over a 14:1 compression ratio and brings the 454 to around 481 ci.
- ARP head studs, main studs and rocker studs are the only way to hold our engine together with the performance numbers we're looking to make.
- A Milodon oil pan with their Diamond Stripper windage tray and the always reliable M77HV Melling high volume oil pump take care of our engine's oiling system.
- Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads will help us move some air through the big block. Flow numbers are great out of the box, but a little porting was needed to make our parts combo work.
- Comp Cams lifters and some good size lobes on our .742 lift Mechanical Roller. Their timing chain set is super reliable without breaking the bank.
- To help protect the engine and stabilize the top end, a billet Dart stud girdle covers up the Comp Cams stainless rocker arms and the 9.25 intake and 8.28 exhaust, one piece pushrods.
- A port matched and cleaned up Dart square port intake manifold with a Barry Grant King Demon top off our big block Chevy for now. We're looking at EFI down the road.
- For the harmonic balancer, we went with an externally balanced Fluidampr fluid filled vibration damper, a very nice quality part for the money.
- Ignition is from MSD and includes a crank trigger with a 7AL-3 box activating a Pro Power coil. Spark is distributed through a low profile billet distributor wit a crab style cap.
- A shot of the Lemons Headers before getting coated. They're long tube bolt together headers that use 2.25 inch primaries flowing into 4 inch collectors.
